Hey everybody -
I've been pretty busy with life/school over here in Montreal- you didn't hear from me at all last semester because I was nonstop working on school, taking over the recommended amount of credits (although, I did quite well in all my classes, mostly because I was working my ass off all the time). Things are more relaxed this semester, and with any luck (cross your fingers, I have to iron out details AGAIN with my advisor *grumble grumble* I won't trouble you with this story, it seriously has become an epic saga by this point) I will have completed my degree by July 2nd of this year! I've switched my minor from music to Italian, which is great because I now get to go to Florence for two months this summer! I could not be more excited. I'm also hopefully going to travel around after the program finishes up so I'll probably be back to Seattle by sometime early August.
Back in January I reminded myself that I should get working on Le Rossignol again, and I have to tell you all that I probably will not be able to really get things going again on it until I get back from all the travelling. Just so you know though, I have not completely given up on that story - I'm completely rewriting/developing characters/drawing stuff/making character "mood" boards/etc etc but I've decided I'm not going to really do any drawn pages for it until I figure all of my other stuff out life/schoolwise for the moment! My goal is to at least have something awesome and partly finished by December of this year. A 32 page comic and full script for a TPB would be great, and is probably doable in that time period, but we'll see how everything shakes out.
For now, I'm trying to finish up my classes here in Montreal and frantically attempting to re-learn basic Italian again so I can be prepared for the intensive second-year italian program I've signed up for in Florence! I am also writing a 20 page paper about the impact the "women warrior" figure has had on the figure of the screen/tv actress, so that should also keep me quite busy - I've been watching a lot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (kind of ridiculous, even for the beloved Joss Whedon) and Xena the Warrior Princess (somehow way more exciting than Buffy, despite its complete campiness) as well as all kinds of bizarre warrior woman movies/tv shows such as Barbarella and the original Aeon Flux cartoon which ran on MTV in the 90s. All of this is sort of "research" along with the 9,000 or so books I have out from the library currently on warrior women. It should be an interesting paper by the time I'm done with everything!
Anyway, just thought I'd let the world know what was up with me (and I was also sick of seeing my other journal on this page), so there you have it.
Ta ta for now,
